museeduquaibranly.com is an independent English-language visitor guide to the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris. I write it. It is not the museum, it is not a tour operator, and it has no connection to either; the museum’s own site is quaibranly.fr.
Who I am
My name is Claire Vasseur. I am a museum educator based in Paris. For six years I ran school visits on the plateau des collections at the quai Branly, which means I have walked the ramp with the projected river of words more times than I can count and I have opinions about it. I now write visitor guides. I live in the 15th, I cycle along the quay past Patrick Blanc’s green wall most mornings on the way to somewhere else, and if you make me pick a section it is Oceania, for the Papuan poles and the Rapa Nui figures.
Running groups there taught me the thing this site keeps repeating: the 45 minutes to an hour the museum quotes is a guided-slot length. Left to themselves, people need two to three hours on the plateau, and the visitors who write reviews say the same. I also learned which entrance to use, when the plateau is empty, and who is entitled to walk in free. That is what the guide is for.
What the site does
It helps you decide whether you need a ticket, and if so which one. The five GetYourGuide listings for the museum are compared on all tickets and combos and reviewed one by one under reviews. That is the whole business model, and it does not change what I recommend. Where the honest answer is “you get in free, do not buy a ticket”, that is what the page says.
